Shanaya Prasad - CRIL Volunteer
Hello, my name is Shanaya Prasad. I am currently studying psychology with the goal of pursuing a career in child psychology. I began volunteering at CRIL around November 2024. While it was sometimes challenging to stay consistent with my volunteering schedule, I typically volunteered on most Fridays when consumer events were held.
What is one thing you learned as a volunteer at CRIL?
During my time as a volunteer at CRIL, I learned how to support visually impaired individuals, particularly how to communicate, offer guidance, and provide comfort in a respectful and effective way.
What advice would you give to future volunteers?
One piece of advice I would give to future volunteers is not to be scared or nervous. CRIL is a warm and welcoming environment where everyone is valued, whether or not you have prior volunteer experience. Embrace the opportunity to learn, grow, and build connections with the incredible people there. The space is filled with kind, supportive individuals who will make you feel included, appreciated, and part of a true community.
Why is it important to give back to the community?
Being able to work within your community and give back is incredibly meaningful, especially in today's world. It provides valuable exposure, allows you to meet new people, and helps you build meaningful relationships. Most importantly, you play a part in making your community a better, more supportive place.
Why should individuals volunteer at CRIL?
I recommend volunteering at CRIL to anyone open to learning, guiding, and supporting others. A big part of being a volunteer here is having the genuine desire to make a positive impact on people's lives. If you are passionate about helping others and building an inclusive community, CRIL is an amazing place to grow, connect, and contribute in meaningful ways
