Kelley Kwong - CRIL Volunteer

What is one thing you learned as a volunteer at CRIL?

As a volunteer at CRIL, I learned how close-knit the staff and consumers are and how comfortable they feel with one another. This creates a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for everyone working and participating at CRIL.

What advice would you give to future volunteers?

An advice I would give to future volunteers is to be yourself and ask questions whenever you are unsure. The staff are always happy to help and support you. Volunteering becomes a more enjoyable and meaningful experience when you feel comfortable learning and growing alongside others.

Why is it important to give back to the community?

That’s a meaningful perspective. Community service often creates connections across different backgrounds and experiences, and small acts of support can make people feel seen, included, and valued. Your work helping consumers, volunteers, and participants at programs and events reflects that spirit of peace and harmony in practical ways.

Why should individuals volunteer at CRIL?

CRIL’s primary motto is to serve people with visible and invisible disabilities. They truly stand by that motto with sincerity and compassion. As a person with low vision myself, I believe an organization that is honest, welcoming, and committed to inclusion is one of the best places anyone could choose to volunteer.
